Telepresent Shadows is an interactive light installation. Entrants to Harvard’s Cabot Library trigger sensors that illuminate different colored lights in the lower level workspace. As the number of individuals in the library increases, more lights are illuminated. Those leaving the library trigger another sensor that turns off individual colored lights. As more lights are illuminated, the number of shadows being cast increases and more complex color combinations occur. The hope is to create a playful experience for those utilizing the basement library space, reducing the stress and anxiety created by exams and numerous impending deadlines. Library patrons can choose to take a break and interact, or can simply enjoy the peripheral experience of those coming and going from the library.
